Meet Sadie… She suffers from JRA (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis) and gets regular treatments at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. This time last year, Sadie was barely walking she was in so much pain. Thankfully, the pediatric rheumatology staff of doctors, nurses and clinicians diagnosed Sadie and put her on a treatment plan. Though she has to go monthly for IV treatments, she is doing really well…
Sadie turns 6 in August and in lieu of gifts she is collecting SillyBandz (any brand) for the kids at Shands. You see, after the kids get hooked up to an IV they get to pick something out of the treasure chest. It’s great incentive for the kids (like Sadie) who dread getting the IV put in. (Sadie’s screams can be heard way down the hall!) The kids that get treated in the pediatric infusion room suffer from arthritis, cancer and other illnesses. Most kids’ treatments run 4-8 hours. That’s a long time to be hooked up to an IV. These are amazing and inspiring children!!
The fabulous nursing staff in the pediatric infusion room are always looking for donations to fill up the treasure chest for the kids. They treat approximately 100 kids weekly. For her birthday this year, Sadie decided to collect and deliver Silly Bandz for the kids who get treatment just like her. Her friends are giving her Silly Bandz in lieu of gifts and Sadie would love it if you would send her some for the kids too!
