Yesterday, as I was running very late to my Wednesday am meeting (apologies to my BNI family), I was listening to John and Leslye on Magic 107.7 in hopes of getting some Christmas cheer. What I got was a whole heapin’ helping of Christmas magic and perspective!!

If you were fortunate enough to catch the segment, then you heard 17 year-old Ashley Kranich speaking about the difficulties of battling cancer and how she has been affected by the lack of love and support by the teenagers around her. (Ashley and her mom, Dawn, had stopped by Magic 107.7 on the way to Florida Hospital for treatment.)

As this moving segment continued Leslye and John presented Ashley and her mother with some gifts including Hello Kitty pajamas that Ashley had admired last week and that Leslye had unknowingly picked out for her. (Did anyone else get goosebumps hearing that?!) Other gifts included clothes and a gift card from Rainforest Cafe.

The Magic 107 morning crew suprises Ashley and her mom.

Leslye, Ashley, Dawn, John and Kim (from Rainforest Cafe)

While most of us were wondering how we’re ever going to get our Christmas shopping finished in time, Ashley was headed to the hospital for several days to continue her battle against cancer. As I listened, I wanted to turn my car around, drive to the radio station and give Ashley and her mom a giant hug! I KNOW other listeners were feeling the same way.

So, let’s do it! Let’s show Ashley the love and support she deserves as she battles this cancer beast!

BluFairy spoke with the morning crew at Magic 107.7 and we’re thrilled to co-ordinate a “Shower Ashley with Love and Support” campaign. We’ll be collecting cards, notes, emails, drawings, photos and even video messages to be delivered to Ashley’s hospital room. In addition, we’ll deliver Ashley a Magic 107 Care Package to make her hospital stay a bit more bearable. You can contribute by clicking on the donate button below. (All contributors will have their names put on the card so that Ashley can see just who sent her the care package.)

Due to a slight fever, Ashley’s chemotherapy treatment that was scheduled for yesterday was postponed to Friday. If we work together, we can decorate Ashley’s room with messages of love, support, strength and hope! It’s all she wants for Christmas!

Here are three easy ways to participate:

1. Leave a comment below (all comments have to be approved  before they will show up on the website).
2. Email your messages to: blufairy@bluedelivered.com
3. Mail your cards/letters to:

We’ll plan to deliver everything this weekend- as long as Ashley’s chemo goes as planned… and we’ll be sure to post photos and/or video to let you all see what your love and support mean to Ashely! Be a part of something magical this Christmas!!

Thank you Central Florida for making Christmas special for this inspiring 17 year old girl!

Update:
The outpouring of love and support for Ashley has been tremendous. She got some good news last night and we wanted to share it with all of you. They re-did Ashley’s bloodwork and her levels are good. In fact, she’s not going to have to have chemo at all this Christmas. We also learned some more good news and wanted to share: Yes, Ashley’s cancer is rare but it has a very high cure rate. So keep the messages of love and support coming in. She is amazed and grateful at all the love she is getting from complete strangers and wanted us to be sure and convey her gratitude.

I find it so amazing that someone I have never met can teach me and many other people such a valuable lesson. You have reminded me how precious life, family and friends are. You have reminded me how we can become so wrapped up in our own self pity, our jobs are horrible,we get frustrated in traffic, always in a hurry to get somewhere, don’t have time to get everything done, why is it always me? I can go on forever. But today instead of being in a rush and stressing out over not being able to find the time to get it all done, I put the top down on my car and ran my errands and enjoyed the beautiful weather. If you had not shared your story I would not have been given the gift of today. And so I thank YOU. And in return for your precious gift of today I am going to include you and your family in my prayers and I am going to thank God for the gift of you. You are a very special young lady. You are one of the most courageous people I have the honor of having in my life. See I have a friend, her name is Tori, she was diagnosed with a very aggressive breast cancer. She has two small children that she feared she may never see grow up. But Tori is like you a very courageous young lady with sooo many people that love her and prayed for her. She never once swayed in her belief that God would get her through this. She had chemo treatments and scans and everything that I am sure you are very familiar with. She had moments where she got good news and moments when the news was not so good. But just recently Tori had reconstructive surgery. She made it. Her story is inspiring and I know yours is going to be just like hers. It already is look at how many strangers you have brought together with a common goal. You are a Christmas miracle. You are loved by so many. I will pray for you everyday just like I did for Tori. Stay strong, don’t be swayed in your belief that God will get you thru this. He will. You are destined for great things. You have already done great things with your story. My wish for you and your family is a blessed Christmas and an amazing New Year filled with more miracles and love. There aren’t words to describe how honored and blessed I feel that you have touched my life. It would be such a joy for me if when you are feeling up to it you emailed me.
    Your very lucky friend,
    Patty Hay

  2. Ashley,

    You are making a difference.

  3. Dear Ashley,

I’m moved by your story and really feel for you and what you’re going through. So sorry that you have to fight this battle now. I hate cancer sooo much!! But I bet you’re strong, you’re a fighter, and you love life, and there’s NO WAY you’re giving up or letting this get you down. You’ve got people who love you and you’ve got big plans for your life. :) No matter what, keep a smile on and dream big dreams and believe for great things to happen. You can do this, and you’ve got all of us rooting for ya! :)

When I was going through a really hard time, I got so much strength and hope from the Book of Psalms — it’s so amazing, powerful, and also beautiful. Words of strength, encouragement, and amazing love. It changed my life for the better, forever!
I just want to share these with you, and hope you know God’s love for you too. Psalm 17:6-8. Psalm 20. Psalm 22:19-24. Psalm 23. We love you Ashley! Stay strong and keep smiling. You are never alone :)

    On your side,
    T.L.

    Hey Ashley

After hearing your story on the morning radio show, where you touched so many people (me included), I felt I wanted and needed to included you in my nightly prayers …. as I fell into a restful sleep I had a wonderful dream but it was not about me (I was not in it at all except as a spectator)… It was a dream about you (Now I am not clarvoyant or saying I can perdict the future I just wanted to share this wonderful dream and perhaps give you hope for your future), It was a sunny warm day, you were around 25 yrs old, you were happy, healthy and playing with a child who called you mommma, your family was all around laughing at the scene as the child made you chase her all around……You looked a little different, even so I still felt I had seen you somewhere, it wasn’t until I seen your moms face and heard her call you Ashley her wonderful miracle, and proof positive that GOD hears and answers prayers, that I remembered seeing and hearing your interview on Magic 107…..I started smiling and giving thanks to God for being with you during your illness that when I awoke this morning I was still smiling, saying to myself what a awesome God we have…then I though I sure hope Ashley gets a lot of rest because that child looked like she was going to give you a run for her money…. So as you go thru this trying time remember that God has more instore for you and life is beautful… Just keep looking to the future.. as you said yourself God doesn’t give us more than we can handle, even though we sometimes wish he didn’t trust us with so much he knows we will make it thru and be better off for it… Well I just wanted you to know I will continue to pray for you and send positive happy and wonderful thoughts and dreams your way…. Stay strong in your faith and God stay strong in your life… when you feel you can’t go any further he will carry you…..(Here comes those positive, happy thought) **:-)** . . .*HUGS, HUGS, HUGS*

    Good Afternoon Ashley,

I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. Please remember that the Lord is always with you. He will comfort you and keep you. God bless you and protect you always.

  22. Dearest Ashley,

I am so thrilled to read your update and the wonderful news that your blood levels look good and you will not be needing chemo this Christmas! I was driving to work and listening to Magic 107.7 (like always) when I heard your story… the tears were flowing as I heard your voice and the gratitude you poured out. I can only imagine what you must be going through – being a teenager is tough on everyone, but to be a teenager fighting such a difficult and courageous battle is even harder! Please know that although you may FEEL like you are alone, you most definitely are NOT – there are many, many people behind you, praying for you and rooting for you as you continue your fight. I am always comforted by the reminder that God will never give you more than you can handle, which means you are ONE TOUGH COOKIE!!!=) I truly believe you will beat this and go on to tell your amazing story. Take comfort, not only in the fact that you have so many people supporting you, but also in the fact that you will serve as an inspiration to many others like yourself who may also feel they are alone in their battles with cancer. Know you are blessed, loved, and able to stay strong – no matter how tough things may get!!! Best wishes for a very Merry Christmas, and lots of prayers and love to you!

    Hi Ashley,
Well it must have been amazing learning that you touched the lives of so many people- some in a big way, and some with just a little nick! I, like so many others, am awed and humbled by you. So many have thanked you for reminding them of the blessings in their own lives- and I, too, want to add my thanks. December has come and gone and people are moving on with life. You are dealing with your own stuff still. I hope you are more cheerful and are flashing your amazing smile at others just a little more often. And, I pray that the hard stuff is a little easier to handle when you know just how special you are and how much your story means to people.
I am a super uber fan of strong women! So, I am a fan of yours :)
Stay strong, keep smilin’ and I will check back in on you again.
    Diana
